My 21 Day Fix Extreme Results and Review

I just finished completing the 21 Day Fix Extreme and wanted to share my review and results!  I was really excited to commit to this program because I LOVED 21 Day Fix and its simple portion-controlled eating plan and daily 30 minutes workouts.  I have to say 21 Day Fix Extreme is another really great program put out by celebrity trainer Autumn Calabrese.

How are the workouts?

The workouts are all new and are more challenging than the original program.  They are more high-intensity and combine aerobics, resistance training, and explosive power moves.  Your entire body is targeted and you will sweat and feel great doing it!

My favorite workout was Upper Fix Extreme.  This no-rest workout allowed me to target my chest, back, shoulders, and arms.  I felt so strong afterwards and noticed improved definition in my upper body.

The toughest workout for me was Lower Fix Extreme and Plyo Fix Extreme.  These incorporate challenging resistance work and explosive movements.  My legs were burning and the sweat was pumping, but it hurt so good.

How is the nutrition plan?

The nutrition plan is slightly more strict than the 21 Day Fix.  The portion control containers work just the same and it’s still an easy to follow system!  However, there are no cheats and no wine this time.  There is also a “Countdown to Competition” plan inspired by bikini competition prep that works on a carb depletion concept.  You can choose between the two plans or do a hybrid.

Confession:  I did not stick to the eating plan 100%.  There were a few days in there that my weakness kicked in and I wasn’t faithful to the eating plan.  I know that probably affected my results because food is 80% of the the equation.  Alas, there’s always room for improvement.  But, I still made progress in my journey and that’s what its all about.  Progress not perfection.

So, here are my results:   I lost 2.5 lbs. and 4.25 inches!  I was super happy that most of my inches came from my hips and thighs, two areas that I’ve wanted to work on the most.  I can now wear certain pants again that used to be too tight.  It’s such a great feeling to feel good in your clothes again!  A huge part of this transformation process is emotional.  I have gained confidence in myself, strength in my mindset, and energy in my daily life.  All this helps me focus on the positive and radiate that to others.

What is the 21 Day Fix Extreme?

The 21 Day Fix Extreme is the sequel program to the original 21 Day Fix, which was designed to make losing weight simple. This more advanced version is meant to get you shredded in the shortest time possible. This fitness and nutrition program combines simple portion control, clean eating, and extreme 30-minute workouts to help you lean out and get definition.  The workouts utilize both weights and resistance bands to burn calories and build muscle.  There are seven workouts, one for each day of the week— so your mind never gets bored and your body never adapts.

What is the difference between the 21 Day Fix and the 21 Day Fix Extreme?

Both programs are bootcamp-style with 30 minute workouts 7 days a week for 21 days. Both programs come with the color coded containers, nutrition plan, Shakeology shaker cup and your first month's supply of Shakeology.

The differences are that the original program is appropriate for all fitness levels including beginners. The Extreme is more for intermediate to advanced levels. In the Extreme, there are more moves that use weights or a resistance band. In the original 21 Day Fix, you are allowed cheats like chocolate and wine, but in the 21 Day Fix Extreme, those options have been removed. It's clean eating and focus for 21 days! There's also an additional "Countdown to Competition" meal plan that is based on the concept of "carb depletion" which is designed for even more dramatic results.

Cauliflower Rice Turkey Taco Bowl

Some nights for dinner, I am out of yellow containers for the day (carbs).  So, we improvise and come up with dinners like this one.  Note:  It's actually better to eat your carb containers earlier in the day if you are trying to lose weight/inches.  But, my family doesn't always appreciate that plan.  The good thing is cauliflower can easily disguise itself as rice, which is nice, ha, that rhymes! Here's what we did for dinner for the whole fam.  It kept me on my 21 Day Fix meal plan and happily fed the rest of my crew, win-win! 

Ingredients: (makes 4 servings)

1 head of cauliflower

1 lime

Olive oil for sautéing

Cilantro, optional

1 lb. ground turkey

Spices to brown the turkey: pepper, onion powder, garlic cloves, chili powder, whatever you prefer

Baby Spinach

2 tomatoes

Cheddar cheese, optional

Salsa, optional

Avocado would also be great in place of cheese, but I was craving cheese!


Grate the cauliflower or cut into florets and pulse 6-8 times in a food processor to "rice" it to the texture you prefer.

Place about a tsp. of olive oil in a skillet, add cauliflower and juice from 1 lime and sautee, you can also add cilantro for more flavor.

Brown the turkey.  I added 3 cloves of garlic in a little olive oil first, then added the turkey along with the above spices.

That's it!  Now just combine into individual taco "bowls" or salads.  For individual servings for 21 Day Fix, measure 1 red container of meat, 1 green container of tomatoes and cauli rice combined, 1/2 green container of spinach, 1 blue container of cheese. Quick and easy!
